Helping Others

The entire philosophy of The Cookie Garden is to bring a smile to peoples' faces.

There are many people who really need their day brightened. Many however are not lucky enough to have caring, encouraging friends and family, like yourself, and they miss out on the magic of smiles every single day.

With that in mind, we at The Cookie Garden wanted to try to make a difference. So we decided that with each cookie bouquet purchased we would donate a percentage of the price to both the Humour Foundation and beyondblue.

The Humour Foundation - www.humourfoundation.com.au

The Humour Foundation is a charity dedicated to promoting the health benefits of humour. International research has found psychological and physiological advantages from doses of humour. Humour is an effective coping strategy. It can relieve fear and stress and aid recovery. The Humour Foundation's core project is Clown Doctors, touching the lives of over 60 000 people every year. The focus is children's hospitals, and Clown Doctors are now part of hospital life in all major children's hospitals around Australia.

. Caring clowns also cheer up adult patients and play a role in palliative care.

. Ambassador Clowns have also visited world trouble spots such as East Timor and Afghanistan.

. LaughterWorks provides speakers and workshop presenters on humour and health topics for health professionals, patient support groups and community groups.

beyondblue - www.beyondblue.org.au

The Cookie Garden values the work of beyondblue the national depressive initiative, and are proud to be able to support and promote their important work.

beyondblue is a national, independent, not-for-profit organization, working to address issues associated with depression, anxiety and related substance misuse disorders in Australia. It is a bipartisan initiative of the Australian, state and territory governments with a key goal of raising community awareness about depression and reducing stigma associated with the illness. beyondblue works in partnership with health services, schools, workplaces, universities, media and community organizations, as well as people living with depression, to bring together their expertise around depression.

Directing our funds in this way assists beyondblue to meet the balance of project costs, which they are required to raise themselves in order to complete their valuable work.

The projects The Cookie Garden supports will be in the areas of Community Awareness, Prevention & Early Intervention and Primary Care, Enterprise Development and Education. Please click on the following links for information about the projects we support:

Community Awareness and De-stigmatization
To reduce stigma by increasing awareness of the symptoms, causes and treatments of depression and by promoting the experiences of people whose lives have been affected.

Consumer and Carer
To promote a community-wide response to, and advocacy for, the issues raised by people with depressive illness and their carers.

Prevention and early intervention
To support programs which provide opportunities to prevent depression and/or promote early intervention, and to rigorously evaluate the impact of these programs.

Primary care
To assist primary care practitioners to increase their community education and treatment roles.

Help us support beyondblue!

*The Cookie Garden donation will be made at the end of each Australian accounting quarter (i.e., March, June, September and December). Updates on our support of The Humour Foundation and beyondblue will be posted on our website.
